10 Reasons to Be Grateful for Vulnerability
Vulnerability is a topic that often carries a weight of unease, yet it is such a vital aspect of building connections and understanding ourselves. When I think about being open with others, I see it as a gateway to forming genuine relationships.
Embracing vulnerability is about learning to lean into discomfort and recognizing it as a strength rather than a weakness.
It’s a practice that allows us to connect more deeply with others and foster meaningful bonds.
Let me give you an example.
I had a melt-down this morning.
I’ve been working 7 days a week for the whole year. I take care of everyone in my coworking community and published two books this year too. Revenue has been frustratingly flat this year. Some of you know how hard I push myself and that I’m generally very happy, fulfilled and purposeful.
However, this morning, I got a 1-star review on Google about my coworking business from someone that has NEVER been here. They didn’t like something about the parking and the trash in the parking lot. Both of which I have ZERO control over. Sure I pick up trash when I see it but it’s not my responsibility.
Anyway, it pushed my buttons. I got angry and fussed to a couple members. The members searched the person and the reviewer is apparently a troll and gives most everyone a 1-star review. Then four coworking members went and put 5-star reviews on my page. I got a little choked up by their support.
Then I had to go into my weekly live meditation session on Insight Timer. Yup, timing. I randomly pulled an inspiration from my book to read for the session like I usually do.
‘…recognize that you are not meant to navigate this world alone.’
That was when I lost it. I started sobbing. On the live session! OMG, those people were and are so kind. They sent me so much love and some shared directly afterwards how much me showing my vulnerability in such a raw way helped them to feel less lonely and more connected.
Reflecting on everything, I am profoundly moved by how fortunate I truly am. My heart swells with gratitude for each of you reading this, my supportive coworking community, my Mindful Life tribe, and my Insight Timer followers. You all have played a crucial role in making me feel connected and less isolated. It’s easy to feel lonely and unsupported on our paths, but always remember: you are never alone. Ever.
